Manuscript volume used to reocrd office correspondence, 1828-1831, by a general store in Columbia, S.C., and later used as an account book, ca. 1852-1860, by an individual in Edgefield District, S.C. Letterbook, 1828-1831, of the Columbia mercantile firm of Hunt & Hughes containing verbatim copies of business letters, 28 Sept. 1829 - 19 Jan. 1831, addressed to Messrs. J. & R. Purvis, chiefly concerning merchant-factor relations. Majority of volume records accounts, 1852-1860, of John H. Hughes in Edgefield, S.C., for general merchandise, including several lists of shoes distributed to African American slaves.
